American Idol Top 9 Rock and Roll Recap

American Idol Top 9:

Well last week we saw the Idol stage send two girls home again and this viewer predicted one of two right and I felt proud of myself. So in keeping with standards I’ve set for myself in season’s past, I’m really going to dig in and try to predict the bottom 3 this week along with whose going home. So without further delay, let’s get on with the show!!!

Theme- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, well this just made my night!!! I’m going to be extra tough because I am a rocker at heart through and through.

Jacob Lusk sings; Man in the Mirror

TK Take- One of the biggest songs in the late great Michael Jackson’s career. I’ve always been a Jacob supporter but sorry dude I don’t think he does anything to make this song his own. It to me sounds like a sing a long. Maybe it’s one of those songs you just don’t mess with but to me it was just an average cover.

Status- Has been safe this whole competition and I don’t see any reason he should start to worry now.

Haley Reinhart sings; Piece of My Heart

TK Take- Well, when I heard she chose to sing Janis Joplin this does seem like the perfect fit to hit the big notes and it’s an all time rock and roll staple song. I have been hating on her for the past few weeks but after hearing her do rock and roll, I must say I’ll ease up a bit. She does this song justice. She has that raw powerful rock and roll tone, that Janis had while she sang it. She seemed to be feeling that song more so in recent weeks, so bravo.

Status- I said bottom three last week but not so fast this week, safe.

Casey Abrams sings; Have You Ever Seen the Rain

TK Take- I love this song and I really hope it turns out well for him. Love the laid back version with just him and his instrument accompanied by the guitarist. I think he nails the song. He changes it up enough to really make it sound completely different from the original and he makes it work, which isn’t easy to do. So far with three contestants done, he has earned performance of the night so far. Great job Casey.

Status- I’m always hesitant to say safe after he was nearly voted off 2 weeks ago, but I’m saying safe.

Lauren Alaina sings; You Make me Feel Like a Natural Woman

TK’s Take- One of the most recognizable songs of all-time if you ask me. Maybe she chose too big of a song for her because in my opinion she just seemed to come across awkward and nervous like she was focusing too much on the singing instead of just letting it come out naturally like she has in past weeks. I don’t think she does enough with the song and she could be in trouble this week.

Status- On shaky ground this week, stay tuned to later.

James Durbin sings; While My Guitar Gently Weeps

TK’s Take- I’m kind of bummed he didn’t choose the big rock out loud song but let’s see what he does with another classic. He is just a natural born rock and roller and I think that his slowed down performance really showed off another side of his vocal range. We know he can hit the big rock screams but this was something laid back and chilled and I really enjoyed it. It’s not the greatest cover of the song ever but I think he does a good job with it. And loved the long high note at the end!!!

Status- I can’t picture him in the bottom three, so I’ll call it safe.

Scotty McCreery sings; That’s Alright Mama

TK’s Take- I don’t know about you guys but Scotty kind of disappointed me this week. I wasn’t feeling the silly faces and dance moves but that’s not what the show is about. I definitely think he can show off the rock side which he does but I can’t picture him as anything other then a country singer, and that’s just my opinion.

Status- He won’t be voted off, so safe.

Pia Toscano sings; River Deep Mountain High

TK’s Take- Well I thought the song itself sucked but her singing doesn’t. I said it last week she is the one with the strongest voice and I think right now she has to be considered the favorite to win it. She showed that she can sing something other then ballads so I’ll give her the props for backing up what she said last week. She just has that it factor when it comes to her voice, well done Pia.

Status- Safe

Stefano Langone sings; When a Man Loves a Woman

TK’s Take- One of the greatest songs ever written and sung, so this is going to be interesting. I did predict him to go home last week so let’s see if he proves me wrong. His voice sounds better this week then it did last week and he does do a pretty good job with the song. He doesn’t do anything to change it up and it’s one of those songs that no one should mess with. It stands the test of time for a reason and I respect him for not changing it up and sticking with it in it’s truest form. Good job Stefano.

Status- I’m going to ponder, stay tuned to end.

Paul McDonald sings; Folsom Prison Blues

TK’s Take- One of the legends of music, Johnny Cash. Not sure how I feel about his voice on this song. He does a good job singing it but I just wasn’t feeling it that much. It was up tempo and fun to snap your fingers with but I felt like it was just ok. Sounded a lot like screaming at times but then again rock and roll is about that at times. So all in all definitely a good job vocally.

Status- I can’t see him in the bottom three.

Best Performance of the Night- James Durbin for My Guitar Gently Weeps

So here’s my prediction for the bottom 3:

Stefano
Lauren
Jacob

My prediction on whose going home this week: Stefano

Am I right with my assumptions and opinions, please let me know guys and sound off. Thanks everybody!!!

Tim
